George Best

Never has a footballer had such a positive impact on society in general as George Best. Born on the 22nd of May 1946 in Belfast Northern Ireland, he went on to become one of the most loved and adored footballers that the country has ever seen. A genius, George Best is considered by many to be the most talented footballer ever to walk on the face of the planet. He was the complete player. Pele, Cruyff, Maradona - all were superb but Best had a bit of each in his game and more. For his country, Northern Ireland, he earned 37 caps and scored 9 goals between 1964-1978. Best's career included spells at Manchester United, Stockport County, Cork Celtics, Dunstable Town, Los Angeles Aztecs, Fulham, Fort Lauderdale Strikers, Hibernian, San Jose Earthquakes, Bournemouth, and Brisbane Lions. After Best's official retirement from the game in 1984, a career in which he made 621 professional appearances and scored 220 goals, he largely remained in the public eye for the wrong reasons.
