Glastonbury Festival
Festival of contemporary performing arts, held annually on the last weekend in June in Somerset, UK. Held continually on the same working farm for over 40 years, the festival has grown from 1500 attendees in 1970 to 177,500 in 2010. Being based in an area known for new age beliefs and customs, the festival has liberal associations, although that aspect has become less pronounced in recent years. The festival is also famous for mud, as most years experience major downpours.
Glastonbury 2011 is taking place from 22-26 June, including performances from U2, Queens of the Stone Age, Beyonce, Coldplay, Morrissey, Wu-Tang Clan, Elbow, Pendulum, Primal Scream and so on.
