Godzilla vs. the Sea Monster
Godzilla vs the Sea Monster is a 1966 entry into the Godzilla franchise of giant monster films.
A group of humans stumble across a remote island where they find a company making nuclear weapons in secret, enslaving the native workforce to do the manual labor. Escape from the island is blocked by a huge lobster like monster called Ebirah. While looking around the island, the captives stumble across Godzilla sleeping in a cave. They wake him up with a bolt of lightning and he then goes on to fight against Ebirah. Mothra also makes an appearance to save the natives from the destruction.
Godzilla's role was originally meant to be played by King Kong, but Godzilla was subbed in at the last moment. This leads to some slightly uncharacteristic behaviour from Godzilla as the script was not rewritten.
It cost 1.2million USD to make and sold over 4 million tickets in two separate release windows.
