Guinea Bissau

The Republic of Guinea-Bissau is a country in West Africa. It is bordered by Senegal to the north, and Guinea to the south and east, with the Atlantic Ocean to its west. It covers 36,125 km² (nearly 14,000 sq mi) with an estimated population of 1,600,000.

They declared independence in 1973, however it has been in a near constant state of political unrest since then which remains to this day. This is reflected in the fact that their GDP per capita and Human Development Index are among the lowest in the world, and over 70% of the population lives in poverty with currently no signs of improvement.

Anecdotally, the drug trade comprises an appreciable amount of the labour force, as the country's location makes it a favourable spot to export drugs into europe.

The official language is Portuguese, however this is only spoken by 14% of the population. About half of the citizens speak Kriol and the rest speak one or more indigenous language.
