Indiana, with nickname "The Hoosier State" is the 19th state of the U.S.and entered the Union on Dec. 11, 1816. It is located in the Midwestern United States and Great Lakes Region. Its capital and largest city is Indianapolis, the second largest of any state capital. Other major cities include Fort Wayne, Evansville, South Bend, Gary, Hammond, Bloomington, Muncie, Lafayette, and Carmel.
