International Oceanographic Data and Information Exchange (IODE)

An IOC project established in 1961 to "enhance marine research, exploration and development by facilitating the exchange of oceanographic data and information between participating member states." The IODE system is composed of a committee which governs the development and operations of the system and a number of data centres that carry out the activities established by the committee. The data centre structure is composed of three components: NODCs, RNODCs, and WDCs.
