Kafka on the Shore (海辺のカフカ; Umibe no Kafuka) is a 2002 novel by Japanese author Haruki Murakami. An English translation was released in 2005 and has received positive reviews and critical acclaim. Much like 1Q84, the plot is based around two distinct but interrelated storeys and each runs in alternating chapters.
