(1978- ) Kate Noelle Holmes is an American actress who became famous thanks to her role as as Joey Potter on the television teen drama Dawson's Creek (1998). When she was 14, she began taking classes at a modelling school and in 1996 she took part in the International modelling and Talent Association Competition held in New York City.

Her first leading role in a film came in Disturbing behaviour and after several minor roles. In 2000 she appeared in The Gift where she did her first nude scene. Holmes's next starring role was in Pieces of April in 2003. Her most successful film until now has been Batman Begins in 2005 (although she was nominated for a Golden Raspberry for "worst supporting actress" for the film). Holmes made her Broadway debut in 2008 in the revival of Arthur Miller's All My Sons. She is also known for being the face of some fashion lines.

In 2005, Holmes started dating the actor Tom Cruise, and they got married in 2006, after having had a daughter: Suri. Katie joined the Church of Scientology after start dating Tom Cruise.
