Mahmoud Abbas
Mahmoud Abbas, also known as Abu Mazen, was born on the 26th March 1935 in Safed in British Mandate Palestine (currently northern Israel).He has been Chairman of the Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO) since November 2004 and has acted as President of the Palestinian Authority since January 2005.
He was a founding memmber of the Palestinian political faction Fatah alongside Yasser Arafat, and since the 1970s has held various posts within the PLO. He is noted for his significant role during the 1993 Oslo Peace Accords.
