The Nikkei Shimbun (more formally Nihon Keizai Shimbun) is a leading Japanese economic newspaper and one of the five most circulated newspapers in Japan. It was founded in 1876 and has a morning circulation of 3 million and an afternoon circulation of 1.6 million. Nikkei specialises in publishing financial, business and industry news, and the Nikkei 225 is has been calculated by the newspaper since 1950 as a stock market index for the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
