Pelamis wave energy converter

The Pelamis wave energy converter, also known as the Pelamis 'sea snake', is a device used to create electricity from the motion of ocean surface waves. It is developed by the Scottish company, Pelamis Wave Power, and after successful tests was linked to the UK grid in 2004.

In March 2012, Dr Richard Yemm, the founder of Pelamis Wave Power, was awarded the Saltire Prize medal for outstanding contribution to the development of the marine renewables sector by Scottish First Minister Alex Salmond. This is only the second time that the prize has been awarded and is worth £10 million to be used in further research into tidal power.
