Punjab is one of the 28 states of India, situated in the northwest of the country, bordering the Pakistani province also called Punjab. Its capital is Chandigarh and largest city is Ludhiana. The state's population is over 27 million, with Sikhism being the predominant faith (63%), followed by Hinduism (34%). Punjabi and Hindi are the state's official languages, though Punjabi is most commonly used.
