A protrusion of abdominal structures through the retaining abdominal wall. It involves two parts: an opening in the abdominal wall, and a hernia sac consisting of peritoneum and abdominal contents. Abdominal hernias include groyne hernia (femoral hernia; inguinal hernia) and ventral hernia.
