Alpha/beta (α/β)-barrel

A structure common to a large group of proteins, all of which are enzymes, defined by their similar structural motif. A ring of eight parallel β-strands makes up the core; the end of each β-strand is connected by a loop to an α-helix that brings the polypeptide chain to the beginning of the adjacent β-strand.
