Array algebra

A set of arrays of mathematical quantities, together with a set of rules for manipulating the arrays in such a way that the results are the same as if the quantities had been elements of matrices. Array algebra has no particular advantage over matrix algebra in a mathematical sense. It does, however, allow the elements to be grouped more efficiently for mechanical computation.
