The signaller keeps track of the trains in real time on a control panel, where each train is represented by its description (a unique four-character ID number). A panel attributing an available train-path to each train is used as a reference. An available train-path provides a train with a margin of progress and ensures that it does not catch up with any slower trains that the controller needs time to position.
