The skills needed to use efficiently the elementary functions of information and communication technologies (essentially word/image/data processing, Internet and e-mail).

Some authors also include hardware skills (connecting devices, installing software, correcting basic faults) or further software skills (using a presentation programme or spreadsheet, file management, retrieving data, etc.); other authors even consider that basic ICT skills are now part of key skills/key competences.
