brazen bull
A torture device developed in the 1500s. It is a large, hollow brass bull that people are forced inside. Once sealed within, the device is heated from beneath by an open fire, causing the brass to become super hot and roasting victim. The device is constructed to make it entertaining for onlookers - herbs and spices within the bull make it smell nice and the acoustics are such that the tortured screams coming from within are morphed to sound like a bull.
Allegedly, the human bones inside would be cooked to such a high temperature that they would shine when they cooled and later be sold as jewellery.
