Code blocker (antisense drug)

In an attempt to develop specific therapies, free of side-effects, an antisense oligonucleotide or analogue that is designed to form a double-stranded complex with an mRNA produced by a virus or other pathogen, or during inflammation or oncogenesis. In the absence of the blocker, the targeted mRNA would otherwise direct synthesis of a protein that supports the infection, inflammation or oncogenesis.
