double play
A double play is getting two men out on the same play. There are a few different ways to get a double play. The most common double play is when there is a runner on first base, and the batter hits the ball to the shortstop. The shortstop then throws the ball to the second baseman, he steps on second base, for one out and then he throws the ball to the first baseman who has his foot on first base for the second out. This is known as a 6-4-3- double play. The number 6 refers to the shortstop, number 4 to the second baseman and number 3 to the first baseman. You hear this all the time in baseball games. A reverse force double play is one in which the first out is a force play and the second out is made on a runner for whom the force is removed by reason of the first out.
