This is the final phase of the ice dancing competition. The free dance has few restrictions on it. The skaters are free to choose the tone and rhythm of their music and are given four minutes to exhibit a range of technical skills and resourcefulness using choreography that they have designed. Teams receive one technical merit mark and one presentation mark. The Free Dance counts for 50 percent of an ice dance team's total score.
