Global warming potential (GWP)

An index used to compare the relative radiative forcing of different gases without directly calculating the changes in atmospheric concentrations. GWPs are calculated as the ratio of the radiative forcing that would result from the emission of one kilogramme of a greenhouse gas to that from the emission of one kilogramme of carbon dioxide over a fixed period of time, such as 100 years.
