Grounding predication

In cognitive grammar, a grounding predication is a schematic category that relates a particular word class to the ground. This is referred to as 'grounding'. For instance, nouns are grounded by determiners and finite clauses are grounded by tense and by modals which link the process designated by the clause to the specific utterance.
