Hematocrit

The proportion of the blood that consists of packed red blood cells. The hematocrit is expressed as a percentage by volume. A normal hematocrit (Hct) is between 32-60, depending on age and health status. A low Hct (for example <20) may result in the need for a red blood cell transfusion.
