Hyperchromic effect
The increase in absorbance, frequently measured at 260nm, when a native polynucleotide is denatured. The ratio of absorbance of the native polymer to that of the denatured or hydrolysed material is the hyperchromicity ratio, and ranges from 1.0 to 1.4.
