Hypertensive urgency

A clinical situation in which a patient has extremely high blood pressure values, typically greater than 180/120 mm Hg that is not accompanied by acute or progressing target-organ injury. These situations require oral antihypertensive therapy to reduce blood pressure to stage 1 values over a period of several hours to several days.
