Interim dividend

Initial distribution of part of the annual dividend on a company's shares. Dividends may be paid quarterly or half-yearly, on the basis of the company's ongoing accounts. Interim dividends are generally low and are kept as even as possible. The balance is paid out in the form of the final dividend. Interim dividends are common in countries such as the US; in Switzerland, only annual dividends are permitted. See also dividend, final dividend.
