Lycaste

Genus of about 45 species of deciduous, epiphytic or terrestrial orchids found in cloud forest in Mexico, Central and South America, and the West Indies. They produce robust, ovoid or ellipsoid, compressed pseudobulbs, and a number of broad, lance-shaped to oblong elliptic, often soft, folded, light green leaves. Large, waxy, fragrabt flowers, produced singly on leafless stems from the bases, are typically triangular in shape, with the sepals framing the smaller, cupped petals and 3-lobed lips.
