Peseta
The peseta was the legal tender in Spain since its approval on October 19th, 1868 until January 1st, 1999, when the euro was introduced. It continued circulating until December 31, 2001 with the legal consideration of "euro decimal fraction" and later it coexisted with the euro until February 28, 2002, when the peseta was retired from the market.
It seems that the word comes from the Catalan word "peceta" (little piece), diminutive of peça (piece), this is the name used since the fifteenth century for some silver coins and was later appointed "real de a dos ".
There were coins of 1, 5, 10, 25, 50, 100, 200, 500 pesetas and bills of 1.000, 2.000, 5.000, 10.000 pts (pesetas), and the equivalence with euro was 1 EUR = 166,386 pts.
