Photo-electric cell

Light sensitive cell. Two types are used in exposure meters. A selenium cell generates electricity in proportion to the amount of light falling upon its surface. A cadmium sulphide cell offers a resistance to a small electric charge when light falls upon it. Cadmium sulphide cells are more sensitive then selenium, especially at low light levels.
