Points

Device or junction where the track divides into two or more diverging lines or where two or more lines converge into one track. Points are made up of three parts: the actual point (articulated parts and the elements joining them), the mechanical control gear (mechanical parts used to move and lock the point) and, if required, the electrical part of the control system. Points can be operated on site, remotely by mechanical transmission (manual switch lever), via a funicular system (by cables) or electrically.
