preferred lie

This allows a golfer to move his/her ball to the nearest point of relief, a place where the ball can be hit, that is not closer to the hole. As an example would be when playing during winter rules, a player is allowed to move their ball on the fairway within six inches of where it landed as long as it is not closer to the hole.
