Regional edition

A periodical tailored for a select geographical area, usually supplemented with advertising and editorial copy of local interest. Many consumer magazines issue discrete variants containing specialised advertising split into separate market regions, sometimes called "splinter-editions"; and there are more than 190 individual city and regional periodicals in existence. Originating with "Honolulu" (1888) and "Philadelphia" (1908), this mode continues with "Arizona Highways" (1925) and "Vermont Life" (1946). References include: City and Regional Magazine Association (CRMA). See magazine, periodical, issue, selective binding.
