Secondary emission

Electrons in a vacuum tube may be moving at a sufficient speed to dislodge additional electrons when they strike the plate of the tube. These electrons emitted from the plate can reduce the current flow in the tube. A third grid element, called the "suppressor grid", is used to reduce the effects of secondary emission.
