silent disco
A social gathering where the music is transmitted to people via wireless headphones rather than through a speaker system. Often the listeners can choose between different streams, and multiple DJs may compete to have more listeners than the others.
Silent discos can also happen in house parties, where each person is instead encouraged to bring an mp3 player or similar device and choose their own music to listen to. The room is much quieter as a result, and people have the option of talking to each other at a reasonable level rather than having to shout over the music.
