sparganosis
An infection caused by the Plerocercoid or Sparganum, certain species of the genus Spirometra. Members of this genus have a life cycle of Diphyllobothrium Latum Germany similar to how. The adults usually occurs in the intestines of dogs and cats, the Procercoid in copepods and the Plerocercoid in the muscles of the frogs, snakes or marine mammals, but not in fish. The whitish, unsegmented Plerocercoid is usually an inch or so in length, but can reach a foot or more in length. People can accidentally by drinking water with infected copepods, or through the ingestion of hosts infected with Plerocercoids. , Because the people are not suitable hosts for the adult stage, the Plerocercoids leave the intestines and muscles, body cavities, or other websites and remain as Plerocercoids. In Eastern countries, freshly opened frogs are sometimes called envelopes on wounds, especially around the eyes, and if Plerocercoids are present, they can penetrate human tissue. Human Sparganosis is rare in North America.
