Superphosphate

A product obtained when phosphate rock is treated with H2SO4, H3PO4, or a mixture of those acids.

  • ammoniated - A product obtained when superphosphate is treated with NH3 or with solutions containing NH3 and/or other NH4-N containing compounds.
  • concentrated - Also called triple or treble superphosphate, made with phosphoric acid and usually containing 19 to 21% P (44 to 48% P2O5).
  • enriched - Superphosphate made with a mixture of sulfuric acid and phosphoric acid. This includes any grade between 10 and 19% P (22% and 44% P2O5), commonly 11 to 13% P (25 to 30% P2O5).
  • normal - Also called ordinary or single superphosphate. Superphosphate made by reaction of phosphate rock with sulfuric acid, usually containing 7 to 10% P (16 to 22% P2O5).
  • ordinary - See superphosphate, normal.
  • single - See superphosphate, normal.
