The stem of a rate. The big figure of 2-7/8 or 2.4253 is two. When quoting a price, dealers may only refer to the points (in foreign exchange) or to fractions (in money markets) and omit mention of the big figure. In the US, the big figure is known as the handle. See also Handle.
