Genetic engineering

The science of modifying and manipulating genes to create new artificial DNA or synthetic genes of different organisms. There are many purposes for genetic engineering, some of which include finding better treatment for diseases, or simply for discovering new organism of interest.

Contributors in Genetic engineering

Genetic engineering

Nutrient deficiency

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

Absence or insufficiency of some factor needed for normal growth and development.

Persistence

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

Ability of an organism to remain in a particular setting for a period of time after it is introduced.

Bio-enrichment

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

Adding nutrients or oxygen to increase microbial breakdown of pollutants.

Aerobic

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

Active in the presence of free oxygen.

Allosteric enzyme

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

An enzyme that has two structurally distinct forms, one of which is active and the other inactive. Active forms of allosteric enzymes tend to catalyse the initial step in a pathway leading to the ...

S1 nuclease

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

An enzyme that specifically degrades RNA or single-stranded DNA to 5´ mononucleotides. Purified from the filamentous fungus Aspergillus oryzae, S 1 nuclease is used in assessing the extent of a ...

Reverse transcriptase

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

An enzyme that uses RNA molecule as a template for the synthesis of a complementary DNA strand.
