Human genome

The human genome consists of 23 chromosome and the small mitochondrial DNA. 22 of the 23 chromosomes are autosomal chromosome pairs and the last one being a gender-determining pair. In total, the human genome contains the sequences of the 3 billion chemical base pairs that make up human DNA and approximately 20,000-25,000 genes. By understanding human genome, scientists are able to develop new medical applications that can significantly advance the state of health care.

Contributors in Human genome

Human genome

Carcinogen

Medical; Human genome

1) Substances that increase the risk of neoplasms in humans or animals. Both genotoxic chemicals, which affect DNA directly, and nongenotoxic chemicals, which induce neoplasms by other mechanism, ...

Bacteria

Medical; Human genome

1) Bacteria are small single-celled organisms. Bacteria are found almost everywhere on Earth and are vital to the planet's ecosystems. Some species can live under extreme conditions of temperature ...

Bradykinin

Medical; Human genome

1) A nonapeptide messenger that is enzymatically produced from kallidin in the blood where it is a potent but short-lived agent of arteriolar dilation and increased capillary permeability. ...

Autoimmune

Medical; Human genome

Of, relating to, or caused by antibodies or T cells that attack molecules, cells, or tissues of the organism producing them (autoimmune diseases).

Blood coagulation

Medical; Human genome

1) Process of the interaction of blood coagulation factors that results in an insoluble fibrin clot. 2) The process of clot formation.

Breeding

Medical; Human genome

The production of offspring by selective mating or hybridization, genetic in animals or plants.
