Immunology

Immunology is the study of the structuree and function of the immune system which is responsible for the protection from invading foreign macromolecules or organisms. It is a broad branch of biomedical science that covers the study of all aspects of the immune system in organisms. It deals with the physiological functioning of the immune system in both healthy states and immunological disorders (autoimmune diseases, hypersensitivities, immune deficiency, transplant rejection); the physical, chemical and physiological characteristics of the components of the immune system in vitro, in situ, and in vivo.

imunoblotting

Biology; Immunology

Imunoblotting is a common procedure, where are the proteins separated by gel electrophoresis on a nitrocellulose membrane covered and revealed links with a description of the specific antibodies.

Poly-Ig receptor

Biology; Immunology

Carry the cells bound to one of the epithelial cell surface IgA, and lumen-side surface of the opposite. Release IgA and then, can participate in the mucosal system protection.

Allelic exclusion

Biology; Immunology

The ability of heterozygous lymphoid cells to produce only one allelic form of antigen-specific receptor (Ig or TCR) when they have the genetic endowment to produce both. Genes other than those for ...

Affinity maturation

Biology; Immunology

The sustained increase in affinity of antibodies for an antigen with time following immunization. The genes encoding the antibody variable regions undergo somatic hypermutation with the selection of ...

Affinity chromatography

Biology; Immunology

The purification of a substance by means of its affinity for another substance immobilised on a solid support; for example, an antigen can be purified by affinity chromatography on a column of ...

Agglutination

Biology; Immunology

The aggregation of particulate antigen by antibodies. Applies to red blood cells as well as to bacteria and inert particles covered with antigen.
