Plastic injection molding
Plastic injection molding is the primary process for manufacturing plastic parts used in consumer goods such as computer keyboards, monitors, bottle caps, cups and solid plastic articles. Plastic is known to be a very versatile and economical material that is used in many applications. Injection molding involves taking plastic in the form of pellets or granules and heating this material until a melt is obtained. Then the melt is forced into a split-die chamber/mold where it is allowed to "cool" into the desired shape. The mold is then opened and the part is ejected, at which time the cycle is repeated.

Plastic injection molding
Finish
Manufacturing; Plastic injection molding
The surface texture and appearance of a finished article.
Plastic deformation
Manufacturing; Plastic injection molding
A change in dimensions of an object under load that is not recovered when the load is removed.
Elastic memory
Manufacturing; Plastic injection molding
A characteristic of certain plastics evidenced by their tendency to revert to a previously existing shape or dimension.
Engineering plastics
Manufacturing; Plastic injection molding
A broad term covering plastics, with or without fillers or reinforcements, which have improved mechanical, chemical and thermal properties over commodity grades of resins.
Degradation
Manufacturing; Plastic injection molding
A deleterious change in the chemical structure, physical properties or appearance of a plastic caused by exposure to heat, light, oxygen, weathering or other external influence.
Polymerization
Manufacturing; Plastic injection molding
A chemical reaction in which the molecules of a simple substance (monomer) are linked together to form large molecules whose molecular weight is a multiple of that of the monomer.
Cavity
Manufacturing; Plastic injection molding
A depression, or a set of matching depressions, in a plastics-forming mould which forms the outer surfaces of the moulded articles.
