Solar power

Solar power is the conversion of sunlight into electricity, either directly using photovoltaics (PV), or indirectly using concentrated solar power (CSP). Concentrated solar power systems use lenses or mirrors and tracking systems to focus a large area of sunlight into a small beam. Photovoltaics convert light into electric current using the photoelectric effect.

Contributors in Solar power

Solar power

tilt angle

Energy; Solar power

The (adjustable) angle a photovoltaic array is placed at when directed at the sun to allow for maximum radiation absorption.

stand-alone system

Energy; Solar power

A photovoltaic system independent of a grid and most likely also includes storage (most commonly batteries).

photocurrent

Energy; Solar power

Regarding photovoltaic effect, photocurrent describes the electric current that is induced from photovoltaic effect.

photovoltaic device

Energy; Solar power

An electrical device that converts energy from a light source into direct current electricity; one of the most essential component of solar panels and solar power.

photovoltaic effect

Energy; Solar power

This process is stimulated when a photovoltaic cell is exposed to sunlight. As the photovoltaic cell absorbs sunlight, added energy causes electrons to break away. The fallen electrons move through ...

downtime

Energy; Solar power

Usually calculated in hours per year, downtime is the time that a photovoltaic system is unable to generate and provide power.

interconnect

Energy; Solar power

A conductor that is used to electrically connect solar cells with one another.
