Solar power

Solar power is the conversion of sunlight into electricity, either directly using photovoltaics (PV), or indirectly using concentrated solar power (CSP). Concentrated solar power systems use lenses or mirrors and tracking systems to focus a large area of sunlight into a small beam. Photovoltaics convert light into electric current using the photoelectric effect.

Contributors in Solar power

Solar power

photovoltaics

Energy; Solar power

One category of solar power that produces electricity directly from solar energy.

direct insolation

Energy; Solar power

Sunlight directly collected by a receiver.

dopant

Energy; Solar power

A chemical added in small quantities to a semiconductor to alter its conductivity

PV

Energy; Solar power

Acrynym for photovoltaics; one category of solar power that produces electricity directly from solar energy.

Solar generator

Energy; Solar power

Solar generators are photovoltaic devices that use photovoltaic cells, or solar cells, to convert solar energy to DC or AC electricity. There are many ways to collect solar energy including solar ...

shunt regulator

Energy; Solar power

Type of a battery charge regulator where the charging current is controlled by a switch connected in parallel with the photovoltaic (PV) generator. Shorting the PV generator prevents overcharging of ...
