Aokigahara
A forest located in central Japan. Due to the type of vegetation present and its particular density, as well as other geographic factors, wind is minimal year round and there are no nearby roads, which makes the forest incredibly quiet.
The forest is known for being a very popular place for people to go to commit suicide, exceeding 100 deaths per year in 2004-2006. In recent years the number of successful suicides in Aokigahara has not been published as part of an effort to dissociate the area from its reputation, but the number is assumed to be falling. The local government also puts signs throughout the forest trying to convince visitors to get medical help rather than end their lives.
