Great American Smokeout

Observed every year since 1977, the Great American Smokeout takes place on the third Thursday of November. Sponsored by the American Cancer Society, smokers are urged to quit smoking for 24 hours. This day also calls on volunteers to distribute information and pamphlets to spread awareness of the effects of smoking. The day also includes various rallies, events, and activities.
