International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC)

The IEC and its affiliated International organisation for standardisation (ISO) are the two major global standards-making groups. They are concerned with establishing standards that promote interchange of products, agreement upon methods of evaluation, and resolution of nonfunctional differences among national standards. They are structured as an international federation of the more than 50 national standards organizations. The USA is represented by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI).
