The Statue Of Liberty
Founded in 1916 in Liberty Island in New York Harbor, the statue of Liberty is one of the most famous monuments in the world. The statue was designed by Frederic Bartholdi and was inaugurated on October 28, 1886 as a gift from the people of France to the United States. Showing a Roman goddess of liberty wearing a robe, carrying a torch and a ' tabula ansata ' that reads the date of the proclamation of the independence of America, July 4, 1776, the statue has become a symbol of freedom to the world.
in celebration of 125 years anniversary on 28 October 2011, video cameras will be installed for the first time to give a view of the Hudson River and New York City skyline from the top of a giant statue of the torch.
Since 1916, the statue is only ever closed one time in addition to regular inspections, i.e. after the September 11 attacks in 2001. The foot of the statue back opened in 2004 and the entire sculpture opened in 2009.
