The French connexion

The French connexion is a 1971 Academy Award winning film directed by William Friedkin and starring Gene Hackman. It's a fictionalised account of the true storey of detectives Eddie Egan and Sonny Grosso, who make cameo appearances in the film. The storey is focused on two narcotic detectives trying to bust a drug smuggling operation from France to the US.

Produced on a budget of 1.8 million USD it made 52 million in American box office sales alone. An entirely fictionalised sequel was created in 1975 one again starring Gene Hackman.
