West Bank

The West Banks is a landlocked geographical area that shares its borders with Israel to the west, north and south, and with the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan to the east. It also has coastline along the west bank of the Dead Sea. As of June 2012 the estimated population of the West Bank was 2,622,544; approxiamtely 80% are Palestinian Arabs. There are approximately 500,000 Jewish Israelis living in settlements in the West bank that under international law are considered illegal. Since the 1993 Oslo Accords, parts of the West Bank are supposed to be under control of the Palestinian Authority and are recognised as such by the international community, but Israel consistently disputes this.
